Your Objective

This is your room, these are your guests and this is your event.

You are the messenger. You have one simple objective: deliver your  message. There is important information you need to share with the audience and your objective is to reach your audience with that message, transform their thinking, and move them to action. You can do this, because this is your room. These are your guests. And this is your event.

this is your room. Before everyone arrives, do something domestic in the room: clear off a table surface. Move a chair. Erase something from the white board. Anything that demonstrates that this is your room and you can arrange it any way you want.

These are your guests. Try to acknowledge and welcome them as they arrive. Thank them for coming and tell them you will get started in a minute.  Make them feel comfortable. Does everyone have a seat where they can see and hear? Keep in mind what it is that you are going to tell them. Because that’s the reason your guests have come.

And this is your event. You set the mood and the tone. If you're excited about what you have to say, don’t be afraid to show it.  If what you have to tell them is serious, be direct and get right to it. If it is difficult news that you have to deliver, show them you understand how difficult this is, and be sensitive to their reaction.

Lose yourself to the message. Reach everyone, transform their thinking, and guide them to action with the care and attention that guests deserve.
